Report for the 3^rd LTT 

held in Malta

Alternative Learning Programme, Paola

Erasmus + Sports and Diversity Project [EU Funded]

Dates: 18^th – 22^nd November 2019

Participating countries:

FRANCE: Lycèe Professionnel Ferdinand Buisson of Ermont [2 teachers and 6 students]

BULGARIA: Prirodomatematicheska Gimnaziya "Vasili Drumev", Veliko Tarnovo [2 teachers and 6 students]

GREECE: 4th Lyceum of Katerini, Katerini [2 teachers and 5 students]

ITALY: Comprehensive Stendhal Institute of Civitavecchia [2 teachers and 6 students]

POLAND: Zespol Szkol Ogolnoksztalcacych nr 1 w Kwidzynie [2 teachers and 6 students]

The teams arrived one or two days prior to the project according to the available flights from their country and were accommodated at The Preluna Hotel and Spa, in Sliema. The language used throughout the week was English.

The agenda was sent to the countries before the start of the project and no changes were needed during the participants’ stay in Malta. The planned activities for this project were organized to not only promote sports and diversity amongst the participants but to also enhance social integration and teamwork skills. Students were encouraged to work in pairs or in groups (formed from different countries) to develop the students’ relationships and foster integrity. The planned activities were aimed at enhancing the participants’ social and communication skills as well as having the opportunity to practice and improve their English speaking skills. Ultimately, the activities focused on providing the participants with fun, engaging learning experiences designed for all levels of ability.

Monday, 18th November

For the first day of the project, the five countries were welcomed at the Alternative Learning programme school for the opening ceremony. The ceremony started with a welcome speech by the Head of School and then the participating countries spent around half an hour touring the school. After, each team had the opportunity to present themselves and their sport-related presentation. The PowerPoints focused on media, ethics, gender equality and disability in sports. The students and teachers then had a small break which took place in the school hall and which was provided by the school canteen. The day ended with some sports activities at Tarxien Grounds (five minute walk from the school premises) organized by the Maltese Sports teachers. In these activities the students were provided with the opportunity to get to know each other better and work in groups.

Tuesday, 19th November

The second day of the mobility was spent trekking at Chadwick Lakes. Even though it was a rainy day, all participants managed to finish the activity. During the trek students were invited to pair up with another student from a different country. One student had to be blindfolded and the other student (without talking) had to direct him/her whilst walking. The aim of this activity was to help the students integrate with each other, come up with different ways on how they can direct each other without talking and ultimately enjoy the peace and scenery during the activity. Students enjoyed this fun and challenging experience which for most of them was a unique and memorable one.

Wednesday, 20th November

This day was dedicated to sightseeing the Maltese sister island, Gozo. The participants were picked up from their hotel at around 8:30 am and we caught the ferry at Cirkewwa at around 9:15 am. The participants visited Ramla il-Hamra, Cittadella, Ta’ Pinu Church, Marsalforn and Xlendi. They had the opportunity to explore the places we visited, learn about the Maltese history, taste traditional food and beverages as well as enjoy the beautiful weather and countryside. During this day the participants enjoyed spending time together, strengthening their relationships and fostering integrity. 

Thursday, 21st November

The day started with a lively outdoor game of Capture the Flag at Ta’ Qali, which students greatly enjoyed.  This was followed by a visit to Mdina, the Silent City, where the participants had the opportunity to get a taste of Malta’s culture by enjoying Mdina’s fascinating architecture and religious places. Lunch was then served at a restaurant on top of the fortress, sharing spectacular views of parts of Malta.

The farewell dinner was held in the evening at Mamma Mia restaurant on the Ta' Xbiex seafront. After enjoying their meal, the participants were presented with certificates rewarding their participation and commitment during the Erasmus week. 

Friday, 22nd

The activities of the last day were held at Golden Bay beach. The Maltese team organised different beach games which required the students to work together. The activities were not only fun but also focused on different physical aspects, keeping in mind the students’ various abilities.

Polish Report 

for the 3^rd LTT held in Malta, 18^th – 22^nd November 2019  EU founded project

 

Participating school:  Zespol Szkół Ogólnoksztalcacych nr 1 w Kwidzynie POLAND

Our Polish team consisted of 6 students: Nikola Krauze, Jakub Pirożek, Ania Nowak, Zuzanna Seklecka, Kamil Nowak, Kamil Snoch and 2 teachers: Sebastian Więckowski and Piotr Opacian.

We arrived in Malta on the 17^th November and due to the airlines timetable left Malta as late as on the 24^th November, two days after the end of the 3^rd LTT. We were the last participants to leave the charming island.

All the week our team was accommodated in a very comfortable hotel: The Preluna Hotel and Spa, in Sliema.

We are happy with all the activities which took place during the 3^rd LTT. Everything was carried out according to the agenda. The activities were diversified, not only focused on sport and diversity but developed well social skills, mutual trust and cooperation as well as developed students’ language skills. Students could communicate only in English which gave them a lot of practice as well as improved their confidence. Overall, our students found the experience very rewarding.

 Monday, 18^th November

On the first day of the LTT our team was welcomed by the Head of our Maltese partner school and we were shown around the school. Our students shared with other students multimedia presentations prepared for that event. Apart from sport and disability in sports they showed an interview with a boy ( now already a girl ) undergoing sex-changing treatment.  The boy was at the time of the interview our student ( last year ). He was brave enough to  talk about how otherness especially the otherness of sexuality is perceived by his peers. Not to our surprise, sometimes it makes the life of “different” people hard. Anyway, our students hope such an interview may help. Our students watched and listened to their peers from other countries with great interest. Later on in multinational teams played different sports.

Tuesday, 19^th November

During the second day all the students did a trek to Chadwick Lakes. As there were different activities during the track our students enjoyed it very much. The activity they found the most challenging and interesting at the same time was a blindfolded walk. Being led blindfolded by a stranger speaking English along a bit slippery path climbing to the top of a hill, and not quite so rarely “stamping their foot into a puddle” splashing the murky water all around must have been at least a little bit unnerving but at the same time built up mutual trust and teach team work.

Wednesday, 20^th November

This day was sunny again and good. We were to do a sightseeing tour around the Maltese sister island, Gozo. It was a great day for our students. They learned a lot about Maltese history, culture and cuisine. The present and the past intertwined, a perfect tour.

Thursday, 21^st November

The day started with a bit of adrenaline – a competition between teams: Capture the Flag at Ta’ Qali. That was a great wake up for students, no coffee was necessary. With their minds stimulated in this way they did the second portion of sightseeing around Mdina’s fascinating architecture and religious places. That was unforgettable day for our students and the farewell dinner in the evening even though a very pleasant event itself was a sad reminder that their wonderful experience was coming to the end. After the meal all the students were given certificates testifying their participation in this LTT mobility. 

 Friday, 22^nd

That was a day of farewell to other teams.  The Maltese team organized some activities at Golden Bay beach to make it less discomforting. Nevertheless, some tears appeared.

 Saturday, 23^rd

That was a full day to wait for an early flight on Sunday morning. Our team didn’t want to lose it. We had arrange still before our arrival at the 3^rd LTT a sea kayaking trip along a piece of Maltese coast with MC Adventure Malta. The weather was great. A gentle breeze from the east made it a bit more challenging to the delight of our students.    

Sunday, 24^th

Early Sunday morning greeted us all at the Maltese airport. It was the ultimate time to say goodbye to Malta. Thank you Maltese team it was a perfectly organized mobility. Thank you Bulgaria, France, Greece and Italy! It wouldn’t have been that great without you.
